Certain customer projects have given us the opportunity to design innovative fixture solutions like this shaft fixture.
The common strategies for holding shaft blanks for horizontal end and side machining are expensive and bulky: vertically mounted chucks with overextended jaws. The end result of this configuration is not extremely accurate or rigid.
Our solution is this set of twin, two-jaw gripping units. This fixture locates and clamps two large camshaft blanks with more clamping force and higher accuracy than the customer's previous methods.
The entire unit is rigid and relatively compact. The basic design is modular and allows convenient mounting of end locators. Shown with constant pressure hydraulic coupling.
