This pair of fixtures was implemented for medium production run of a cast-iron wheel hub for a recreational vehicle.
The customer supplied tombstones that allowed for common subplate mounting on all four sides - this became the customer standard.
All four sides of the tombstone are set up with hydraulic valving for future subplate installation. To remain within the maximum capacity of the machine tool to be used, the tombstones are cast from aluminum instead of iron.
A/B LOAD FEATURES:
1. Self-centering, pullback expanding mandrel units locate and clamp the ID of the hub with 0.0005" repeatability.
2. Orient locators with spring pushers ensure loading consistency.
3. Work supports used to locate and support nonrigid section of casting along with overhead pull-down clamps featuring swivel contact arms for even, repeatable clamping.
